Welcome to Year 5
In year 5 we are lucky to have 3 teachers - Miss Corcoran, Mrs Jones and Mr Trussell. We also have three teaching assistants - Mrs Duffy, Mrs Smith and Mrs Davies.
Well all the hard work we've put in throughout Year 5 has come to fruition! Having recently finished our end of year tests, all three teachers are very happy with the results. After a tough week, all of Year 5 took some time on Friday afternoon to kick back and chill out at a celebration party.
It has been very pleasing this week that the children have got back into working hard in lessons. It's not the holidays yet!
What's still to come?
Soooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!! World Cup Week starting on the 7th July; The Chester Zoo trip on Thursday 10th July; The Attendance Trip (have you been in enough?); New Park's Got Talent; Awards Night; The Year 6 Leavers play and, of course, THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!
Reading: In year 5 we expect children to bring in their reading books and reading records ever day and encourage as much home reading as possible. Reading at home really contributes to the children's learning in school as not only does it improve their reading skills but also their writing and general learning about the world.
Times tables: Children having a secure knowledge of their times tables also improves their general numeracy skills, so we encourage as much practise of these at home as possible. All children are tested in school on their times tables at least once a week.
P.E: A lot of pupils seem to be forgetting their kits this term. Not sure why. It definitely isn't the cold weather. It's a shame that so many children are missing some amazing, fun outdoor activities with Miss Beaumont and the rest of the Year 5 teaching team. PE this term is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Children receive homework each week which includes; literacy, spellings, maths and homewriting. A copy of our homework timetable can be found by clicking on the document below. Luckily, we now have a daily homework club ran by some of our amazing support staff, which starts at 8.00am each morning. This means our children can now do there homework or some reading with support, and even enjoy a piece of toast or bowl of cereal at the same time! As a year group we are also running a lunchtime homework club on a Wednesday to give extra support to anyone who needs it.
After school clubs
Most of the after-school clubs have ended but the Lacrosse is still going on Thursday evening for those lucky enough to have been selected.
