I hope you are all well and staying safe. I must say, I am REALLY missing your chatter and seeing your smiley faces. I can't wait until we're back in school and things get back to normal once more.
I know you have lots of work in your packs but thought I would send you some links for extra things to help with your learning. Also I wanted to say that learning should be fun and you could take some of this time to learn a new skill like baking, or take on a new craft project. As usual I am working hard on things for you all at school, but I am also managing to fit in some of my sewing and knitting!
Keeping yourself fit and healthy is important so don't forget to follow Joe Wicks in his fitness sessions everyday at 9 o'clock.
I know how much you all enjoy being creative and there are lots of youtube videos giving you lessons and ideas for drawing but don't forget redtedart.com has lots of super ideas to help with your creativity too.
There are lots of games and activities for you on purplemash.co.uk. If you have forgotten your login, then Miss Mitchell or Mr Povey should be able to help.
If you want to improve your knowledge of the world, then sheppard software.com has some super map work aimed at improving your knowledge of continents, countries and capitals.
Our new History topic for the summer term is all about the Mayans. You might like to find out some information about them for yourselves. If so check out dkfindout.com/uk/history/mayans or theschoolrun.com/homework-help/the maya
As a school we have access to Times Tables Rockstars, Numbots, the Spelling Shed and the Maths Shed. You will need login details and passwords for each of these, but again the lovely Miss Mitchell has all of your login details. For anyone wanting more maths, try whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/. Also, Carol Vorderman's the maths factor (themathsfactor.com) is offering free access while schools are closed but you will need your mum or dad to sign up for this excellent site.
As always, reading is important and I know how much you all enjoy reading, so take this opportunity to indulge in some quality reading time. At 11 o'clock you can access a David Walliams free audio story on www.worldofdavidwalliams.com. You could also try out lovereading4kids.co.uk/kids-zone/.
There are lots of sites which will inspire you to be creative with your writing for example: www.onceupon a picture.co.uk, www.literacyshed.com. and Jane Considine is operating a daily sentence stacking lesson on www.youtube.com/the training space. I'm really missing reading your stories and I think you are all fantastic story writers so I would love to read some of them when we get back to school. When you are writing try to include correct punctuation, expanded noun phrases, conjunctions, fronted adverbials, speech, modal verbs, relative clauses and a colon to introduce a list as well as your FANTASTICs sentences. Have lots of fun when writing!
Also, twinkl.com are offering premium resources for free whilst schools are closed. I am including the Year 5 spelling list and some of my SPaG quizzes to help with your learning. You could try them out on your parents too!
I have also found some brain teasers for you to try out. Have fun!
Take care of yourselves and stay safe. Thinking of you all.
With love Mrs Ellis x
P.S. I have set some to do activities on Purple Mash, have fun!
