Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to Classes 3L and 3E who will be taught this year by Mr Deakin, Miss Myers and Mrs Ellis. Our classroom assistants are Mrs Bowden-Davies and Miss McCarthy.
This year as well as improving our literacy and numeracy skills, we have been learning all about the Celts, the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. We have visited a Celtic Roundhouse , met a Roman soldier and spent the day in school working with a Viking settler.
The children have taken part in various physical activities through the year and will need an indoor PE kit on Tuesdays and a suitable outdoor PE kit on Thursday. We have been learning new skills in netball, hockey, rounders and cricket. This week we have been participating in our school World Cup week and have taken part in a football tournament with our year group, check out some of the pictures below!
In science have been covering topics on health and growth, materials, rocks and soils, plants, magnets and light and shadow. We have carried out some practical activities in order to enhance their understanding of the subject.
In Design Technology we have made delicious sandwiches, worked on packaging and designing and making a pneumatic monster. During the sandwiches topic, a competition was held to design a healthy sandwich for The Lunch and Brunch Bar and this sandwich was then available for a week for the children to enjoy at lunchtime as part of their healthy school meal. Well done to all the children who took part, their designs were amazing!
The children have learned French as part of the curriculum. They will learn how to ask and answer questions, count to 31, colours, some animal names , some body parts, the days of the week and months of the year.
Our well stocked ICT suite has been used to search for information and develop keyboard skills to enable them to carry out various tasks. We have used computers and I-pads to reinforce learning in other areas of the curriculum, particularly maths, science and literacy.
This year we have also been lucky enough to have a visitor from the Dogs Trust whom we have raised some money for. Our visitor was very entertaining and even left us a little surprise in our carpet area! The children had great fun.
Homework and Assessment
We have recently completed our annual tests to check on how the children have progressed this year. All the children worked extremely hard during this week and it has been amazing to see how well they have all done. The children had tests in maths, writing, reading, spelling and mental maths. Well done to all the children who completed their tests.
Homework is given out on a Friday. The children receive spellings, home writing and a piece of maths as well as times tables practise. They have a whole week to practise their spellings and times tables as they are tested the following Friday. Writing and maths work need to be returned by the following Tuesday.
