On Tuesday 25th November olympic gymnast Hannah Whelan came to school to talk to us about her career. She also joined in with a sponsored circuit that we all had to complete. It was great fun and we loved hearing about and seeing some of Hannah's skills in gymnastics.

Campfire Morning 24th November 2014

Hello smiley

We are half way through another busy week in Year 1. Here are a few of the things we have been learning in class.

This week we have started working on recounts in literacy. This means being able to retell an event or experience in the correct order. We can use vocabulary such as first, next, then and finally to help us tell our recount.

Number bonds and addition:

We are still enjoying practising our number bonds. This is 2 numbers that make the same number i.e. all the different ways of making 10 including 5+5, 6+4, 3+7 etc. This week we have been finding different ways of making other numbers such as 6 & 7. We have also been doing some simple subtraction sums.

History & DT:

We have really enjoyed reading some of your homeworks about old toys. In class we have enjoyed playing with some real life ols toys such as spinning tops and marbles. This week we have been designing our own moving toy which we are going to make in DT next week.

Keep up the hard work everyone,

Miss Hinawski & Mrs Evans x

Interactive Alphabet

This week in literacy we have been improving our dictionary skills. We have been practising ordering the alphabet, putting words in to alphabetical order and finding specific words in the dictionary. We have learnt some new vocabulary such as 'definition'.

We have made a class dictionary that you can come and see in our class and this is our interactive alphabet (with definitions) for you to enjoy at home!

We hope you like it :)

1H x

Well done to the Year One boys who took part in the LSSP Year 1 EFC football competition. They made it through to final stage of the tournament!!!

Year 1 trip - Tour of Liverpool

Hello and welcome to Year 1's class page.

In year one we have two classes. In 1H the class teacher is Miss Hinawski and the teaching assistant is Mrs Roberts. In 1E the class teacher is Mrs Evans. The teaching assistants in 1E are Miss Bowden-Davies and Miss Weston.

Over the past two weeks we have been settling in to our new classrooms and getting to know our new teachers. In Literacy we are currently learning about stories with familiar settings. Eventually we are going to be having a go at writing our own stories.

In maths, we are learning about all the numbers up to 100. We are getting better at recognising, ordering and counting with these numbers. Can you spot these numbers when you are out and about? What number is your house? Bus?

If you are interested in all the other subjects we will be learning about take a look at the curriculum pages.

We hope you have all enjoyed starting your new school year!!

Below are some general reminders:

1. PE kits - the children will take part in weekly PE lessons where they are expected to wear full PE kit (this includes white t shirt and black shorts with pumps or trainers) Please keep this in a clearly labelled bag which can be kept on your child's coat peg.

2. Snack bars - if your child would like a snack bar during morning break time they must bring 30p each day or £1.50 per week.

3. Spellings - your child will recieve a new spelling list every Monday. Please can you make sure you take some time to practise these with your child.

4. Homework - Every Friday your child will receive a new piece of homework to complete over the following week. Please ensure that this is completed and brought back to class by the following Friday (latest) so that it can be marked.

5. Reading books - We aim to listen to your child read in class 3 times a week. It is important that your child brings in their reading book and reading record every day! Please listen to your child read every night and if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to leave a comment or come and see us in class!
