We will teach the children key reading and writing skills and enrich communication and language development throughout the year. In maths we will teach key number and shape, space and measure skills through a wide range of practical activities. The children will have a daily letters and sounds session where we teach the letters and sounds of the alphabet and how to read, sound out and write simple words. We also teach the children a range of creative, musical and understanding the world topic concepts throughout the year. We also follow the children's interests through a wide variety of quality play experiences.
Reading
Each week the children will take home reading books to share with you. We read with the children regularly each week and we kindly ask that you bring in your child's book bag each day. The children will also have the chance to share library books regularly. Book bags can be purchased from the office at £3.50.

P.E
P.E in Reception is on Thursdays. P.E bags can be left on the children's pegs in the cloakroom.
Clothing
Please ensure that all of your child's belongings are clearly labelled so that they can be easily found.
Outdoor Play
In Reception we access the outdoor area in all weathers and we use our outdoor classroom daily for a wide range of practical activities that support what we do in the indoor environment. We support the importance of outdoor play in the early years and how it enriches the children's physical, personal, social and emotional development as well as enhancing communication and language skills. You can leave wellies and any waterproof coats on the children's coat pegs. Please clearly label any outdoor clothing you bring in to school. Many thanks.
Cookery and Snack
Each Thursday we do a cookery activity with our Reception children. We kindly ask for £1 per week towards the cost of cooking ingredients and daily snack. Please hand in your £1 each Monday.
Stay and Play
You will have the opportunity in Reception to enjoy spending time with your child in school. We will let you know when stay and play sessions take place and look forward to seeing you there.
Toy Library
This year Reception will have the opportunity to borrow a toy and take it home for a week. The Toy Library will begin soon and will run each Friday straight after school. Toys are borrowed each Friday and returned to school the following Thursday. We hope that the children have lots of fun choosing a toy to borrow. Each class will take turns to borrow the toys and it is a great way of seeing the kinds of toys we use to support early years and quality play.
Trips and Visits
This year we will organise a range of trips for the children. We will inform you in plenty of time for upcoming trips and visits.
