Hello and welcome to 2E's class page. Here you can find valuable information about what your children are learning this term.
In English the children will be learning about information texts. We will focus on sharks and research these fish in lots of different books as well as on the internet. At the end of the topic we will make our own information booklets about sharks .All children will continue to enjoy daily spelling, punctuation and grammar lessons as well as practising their handwriting and phonics every morning.
In Maths the children will continue to count in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's as well as halves and quarters. They will learn to choose and use the appropriate operation to solve one and two step problems. They will continue to reason about addition and use estimation to check their answers as well as learning how to analyse and represent data in a variety of ways.
Our topic this term will be Rio in preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In Geography we will compare and contrast Rio to Liverpool. We will identify some physical and human geographical features on the continents of South America and Europe and will compare everyday life in these two major cities. In Design and Technology we will make clay medals and in Art we will decorate carnival masks.
RE will involve learning about celebrations and rituals in different religions. In PSHE we will explore our local area, appreciate the public facilities that are available to use and enjoy and learn how to keep ourselves safe when out.
In French we will develop our vocabulary through colours, shapes and stories.
The children will continue to have PE lessons every Monday with Miss Beaumont. This term they will be playing rounders and taking part in athletics. As the children will have another PE lesson during the week, please ensure your child brings their PE kit to school on Monday and leaves it in school all week. The children will also attend football coaching sessions every other Thursday morning.
Homework will be sent home every Friday. Please return it to school the following Monday. Spellings will be sent home once a week on a Monday. The weekly spelling test will take place on a Friday. Please practise 2, 5 and 10 timetables along with the Year 2 common exception words throughout the week with your child.
Reading books will be sent home every night. Please take time to listen to your child read at home every evening, even if they have read the book before. Reading is the gateway to all learning so please take time to share the children's reading books with them. Ask them questions such as,
Who is your favourite character? What do you think will happen next? Why do you think that happened? Have you read any other books like this before? Who does that character remind you of? What sort of a book is this?
I am looking forward to another fun and successful term with 2E and have high hopes for all of your children. We work hard but always take time to enjoy ourselves in our amazing playground. If you have any concerns or are uncertain about anything at all please do not hesitate to speak to me either before or after the school day.
