Day 1 - Saturday 14th March 2015
After an early start of 2.30am we set off to Manchester. We had no tears just excitement. Check in was quick and we made our way through passport control without any problems except for Mr Povey's full body search!
We boarded the plane about 6.20 and after a short delay we set off to Geneva.
We had a brilliant flight where all of the children behaved impeccably. Next was the worst part of the journey a 4 hour bus journey to resort. By this point tiredness was kicking in unfortunately the Year 6 children didn't agree and stayed awake! Luckily the Year 4 and 5 children all had a sleep!
We got to resort and went straight to our rooms to put our bags in and then down for lunch and our ski fit!
For the rest of the day we relaxed and had an early night!
Day 2 - Sunday 15th March 2015
Up for breakfast and a 9.15 start to make our way to the slopes! Unfortunately due to a little wind the lifts that take us up were not working so we caught the bus. The children and staff were amazed at how beautiful it was. We got into our two groups and met our instructors. We had two hours on the nursery slope and our lessons at the chill factor really helped as our children picked it up quickly. After lunch we were moved on to slightly bigger slopes were the children were learning how to turn and have control down the slopes!
In the evening we had a quiz some time for the children to have a drink and then it was time for bed!
Cora and Kendal were selected as our skiers of the day!
What a brilliant start to our trip! Hope all of the parents are enjoying the updates so far!
Day 3 - Monday 16th March 2015
After a good days skiing on Sunday in tricky conditions brought on because of wind we were delighted to catch the bucket lifts up to meet our instructors. It's was lovely sunny day and both of our groups had progressed well from the first day. We spent the morning working on our turning and stopping. Just before lunch our instructors told us that we would be going to a new location which would mean we would be using cable cars and chair lifts!
Mr Griffiths group spent the afternoon up a mountain which required us to use a 6 seater chair lift! Mr Povey's group caught a cable car! The children loved it showing incredible technique to move down the mountain with control!
In the evening we had a movie night to give the children an opportunity to relax before another busy day!
All the children are loving this experience and are benefiting so much!!!
Skiers of the day – Charlotte and Jack, Well done!!
Day 4 - Tuesday 17th March 2015
Tuesday was the day every group was really tested. In the morning Mr Griffiths' group went up on an 8 person cable car and skied down a tricky slope brilliantly! We reached 2100 metres up!!
Mr Povey's group continued their amazing work going really high and going on cable cars!
Mr Povey and I are actually staggered by how well the children are doing. It is hard going physically but the children are skiing at an incredible standard for their 3rd day!
The weather is lovely blue skies. Apparently it's not the best snow but it doesn't stop Team New Park!
After a long day we played bingo where we had a few winners! The New Park children are being a credit to their families, the school and themselves. Speaking French to people on the slopes, perfect manners, being respectful and having such a positive attitude to everything! Congratulations to Mikey for being our skier of the day - well done!
Another exciting day ahead and a disco later!
Day 5 - Wednesday 18th March 2015
Day 5 was another great day! Most of our children moved on to blue runs and using poles today! Mr Griffiths group was the first group to go on the "scare chair" which is a chair that goes down vertically into a valley and then back up! It was a tough morning of skiing!
Meanwhile Mr Povey's group were very high up a mountain skiing between blue and green runs!
More challenging skiing in the afternoon and we all finished the afternoon shattered!
One particular slope got the better of us 3 New Park staff and we all had spectacular falls in the same place - all ok though snow cushions the fall!
In the evening we finished off watching the film ready for Thursday where we are shopping and having a disco!! Children are all fine but very tired as it is physically the hardest thing they have ever done!!
Skier of the Day - Badra Toure, well done!
Day 6 - Thursday 19th March 2015
Another amazing day skiing. In the morning the children went out with their groups and again skied down green and blue runs. All of the children can ski and although very tiring are having a great time!!
The sun was blazing and lots of our children now have a snow tan!
More of the same in the afternoon and then we headed back to the hotel to change our shoes and off out again to shop! They taught us adults a few lessons they were like shopping machines. One shop was so delighted with the manners of our children he passed us a big box of Haribos as a present!!
We then made our way back to the hotel for dinner and then it was disco time! Our children looked fantastic and showed some serious moves on the dance floor!!!
Our skiers of the day were Samantha and Emilie, well done!
We now move on to the last day. Awards tonight and then an early start to bring the children safely home to Liverpool! Mr Povey will text all parents as we arrive in Manchester and don't forget pick up at the school. Approx time is 2.30pm!
