Hello and welcome to our PE page!
At New Park we are offering our pupils a variety of activities within our PE curriculum and extra curricular programme. All classes have a weekly lesson with our PE specialist, Miss Beaumont, as well as a second lesson with either their class teacher or with LFC football coaching. Students learn a variety of sports including gymnastics, fitness, hockey, lacrosse, dance and tennis alongside others. Within these lessons they focus upon developing the skills involved in the sport, working with others and how to incorporate tactics.
We discuss the importance of healthy lifestyles, thinking about how exercise and nutritious diets benefit us not only physically but also help us to concentrate in the classroom!
Children in Key Stage Two all attend swimming lessons. Years 4 and 5 go in both Autumn and Spring term. Year 6 go in Autumn term and Year 3 go in Spring term. Girls are asked to wear a one piece swimsuit and boys to have tight fitting swim shorts. Children will also need a towel and swimcap. Goggles are not allowed for lessons. We believe swimming is a life skill and have seen a huge improvements in pupils' abilities since we began this high amount of lessons last year. All pupils have commented on how much they enjoy learning which is great to hear!
LFC Football Coaching
All classes will receive coaching from LFC coaches at Anfield Sports Centre for half a term. For Autumn 1 it will be Year 2 and Autumn 2 will be Year 1. Pupils who attended the sessions last year all had a great time and showed progress with their football and multi-skills.
All pupils require a PE kit, ideally consisting of a plain white t-shirt or school badge embroidered top, black shorts, black leggings or black tracksuit bottoms with trainers or black pumps. This should be in school at all times and can be left on your child's peg. We recommend putting names into kits to avoid confusion when getting changed.
Sports Teams and Competitions
We have teams in a number of sports and try to enter as many competitions as we can so students can experience an event. We have a football team in all year groups with our Year 5 and Year 6 team competing in the Liverpool Primary Football League. There is a girls' football club on a Friday night and they are entered into the Liverpool Cup.
We have a cross country team who compete in six races in the Cross Country League against approximately 17 other schools citywide as well as competing in the Cross Country City Championships. We have seen progress every year in cross country which is fantastic! We have an athletics team who will compete in the Athletics Championships in the summer at Wavertree Athletics Centre.
Alongside these, we enter and compete in a number of Liverpool School Sports Partnership (LSSP) inter-school competitions. These enable us to compete in a wide range of sports as well allowing a large number of our children to represent New Park. Sports we compete in include hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics, dodgeball and basketball.
We also have intra-school competitions in which all our pupils compete against their peers within our school. These take place every half term within PE lessons or as a separate event on a dedicated day. So far we have held intra-school competitions in athletics, rounders, cricket, football, tennis and gymnastics.
Overall, we try and provide our pupils with as many opportunities as possible to learn and progress in different sports. We believe this is helping our children develop a lifelong love for exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
